"I'm expecting kits, Firestar!" The young, elated queen purred happily along with the firey, orange red tom. He rubbed his pelt against hers, licking her every so often. "That's amazing--our kits will be the best in the world." He told her joyfully.
No, oh no Firestar! Don't do this. I knew this relationship was a bad idea from the start! I'm Bluestar, former leader of ThunderClan. I feel responsible for Firestar, he was my apprentice, then my deputy, now leader of ThunderClan. I should have stopped him from getting into a relationship with a cat from another Clan, even if I was the one who told him about the prophecy. Just say goodbye, leave her! I guess I didn't warn him, because I had some hope that these mates might work out, that it might end happily-unlike Oakheart and I....Mosskit..... But I was still so foolish!
"When will they be born?" Firestar asked the queen. "Not for a while yet, so don't worry." She reassured him, glancing up at the night sky. "I need to go back now or else they will worry, I just said I was stepping out of camp for some fresh air," The pregnant she-cat explained. With one final lick, she bounded back into her own territory, leaving ThunderClan's leader staring wistfully at her.
I stared grimly at her, watching her run to her own territory. This was not good. StarClan would have to do something about this. My blue-gray pelt rippled as I bunched up my muscles in preparation for the high jump onto StarRock, the place where cats would address all of StarClan. I let out a loud yowl, summoning every deceased cat. "Firestar, now leader of ThunderClan, has betrayed the warrior code and mated with a queen from a different Clan." I stated. Yellowfang, ThunderClan's former medicine cat, spoke up above the shocked silence. "We all know whose fault it is," She pointed out. "We all know who told Firestar of the prophecy." Her voice lowered, and deepened in accusation.
"But! We will forget past wrongings, and I will be the one to take out judgement on the queen." "No!" Snowfur, my sister, hissed. "The queen cannot help it if she fell in love with ThunderClan's leader. Punish Firestar!" Snowfur yowled. I sighed. "Firestar will get double judgement, because he is a leader, he should know better. Besides, he has Sandstorm-" Here I left off. I knew what StarClan would be forced to do. Firestar had brought it upon himself, and so had the queen. Sandstorm may be innocent, but Firestar would have to pay. "Yellowfang! I agree for you to punish the queen and Firestar-" Here my voice choked, "but let the kits live."
I need six replies from six different people- criticism or comments (it doesn't matter) before I will post Chapter One)
I decided I'd go ahead and post Chapter One, even though only 2 people have replied....
Chapter One
Icekit squealed. "Mother, Dustkit pushed me off the boulder!" Icekit's brother looked at her indignantly. "I did not!" Dustkit declared. Gingerkit and Owlkit rolled on the ground in the camp's clearing, purring their amusement. Icekit glared at them, her beautiful pelt dirty and ruffled from her fall off of the large rock, onto the muddy ground. Creamfur, the kit's mother, came over to groom Icekit's white pelt. When she was finished, she mewed, "It's alright, I'm sure Dustkit didn't mean to. It was just an accident." Creamfur purred reassuringly.
Icekit stalked into the nursery, her pride ruffled. "Make sure you're quiet, you don't want to wake Flamekit and Dawnkit," Creamfur called after her daughter. Flamekit and Dawnkit had been born just yesterday, and their mother Flowerpetal was exhausted. Icekit laid down on the moss in the nest she shared with her mother and three siblings. Flowerpetal and her two kits were sleeping, along with Redfoot, a queen who had moved into the nursery just recently. Both were sleeping.
Icekit heard her mother and littermates playing outside, and began to grow restless. Suddenly, an idea popped into her head. She snuck out of a small rip in the brambles that covered the nursery, and headed toward the fresh-kill pile, making sure her siblings and mother didn't notice her. Most of the apprentices and warriors were swimming in the river, and the few that remained, were outside guarding the camp. Icekit selected a large, plump squirrel, dragging it into the shady den that accommodated the elders, Stumpfoot, Browntail and Tangletooth.
Browntail lifted his head sleepily. "Oh look, a kit!" He mewed happily. Stumpfoot, the only female elder, shifted in her nest as she sat up. Tangletooth sighed. "Why oh why she can't be one of those lazy apprentices come to clean out my bedding?" He asked grouchily. Icekit purred her amusement as she dragged the squirrel over to their nests. "Stumpfoot, I want a story, please," Icekit asked. Browntail purred as he bent down to lick Icekit between her ears. "Tangletooth and Browntail will eat the squirrel. All my toothless gums can have are herbs," Stumpfoot announced. Her voice sounded old and raspy.
Icekit nudged the squirrel over to the waiting tom elders as she settled down, waiting for Stumpfoot to begin.
And this is the story Stumpfoot related to her young listener.
"Long ago there was no ForestClan. Four Clans, yes, but no ForestClan. In it's place was RiverClan. We are much the same, both swim, fish, hunt, battle, but we climbs trees, we are also adept at stalking prey through the thick forest, and we have powerful hind-legs for jumping high into the sky for catching birds and squirrels. But for a few seasons, prey disappeared from RiverClan's territory. Birds, fish, mice, squirrels, voles, everything. They had no food. Streams dried up, and RiverClan suffered terribly. Tremors would shake the earth at times, making them live in constant fear. Many died from starvation, especially their kits and elders. Then one day, when their leader and two new warriors were visiting the Moonstone - you have heard of the Great Journey, and how at the Clan's other territory we had a Moonstone, not a pool - a terrible shaking filled the RiverClan camp, and the earth split up and swallowed the entire camp, shifting and making a huge, deep, treacherous pit. All of RiverClan fell in. When the leader, Stormstar, came back, she was devastated at the loss of her Clan, and quickly died, loosing her nine lives.
"However, the other two warriors, Berryheart, a wise she-cat, and Forestoak, a silver-tongued tom, were determined to build back their Clan. ThunderClan took them in, and every Gathering they would ask cats to join the new RiverClan. Over time, they accumulated cats from WindClan, from ThunderClan, and from ShadowClan. Only, Berryheart and Forestoak (who had fallen in love by now and had had several kits) felt that some part of their new Clan, which wasn't named yet, was missing. One day several loners came to the Clan, claiming to be from SkyClan, a Clan that had left the forest long ago. Berryheart and Forestoak took them in, and finally, the Clan felt complete. But it had no leader, no deputy. Berryheart and Forestoak wanted to decide on a name first. They did not even go to Gatherings!
"But one day, badgers attacked the Clan, killing Forestoak. Berryheart was devastated, and went to dream with StarClan at the Moonstone. There she received nine lives, and decided on her Clan's name. She went back, made a deputy, and announced, 'This Clan shall be called ForestClan, in honor of my fallen mate'."
"Icekit! There you are! I was so worried." Creamfur scolded her kit, Owlkit peeking from behind her legs. He winked at his sister, making her ruffled pelt fall back down. "Stumpfoot was just telling me a story about ForestClan's beginning." Icekit explained. Owlkit ran up. "Why didn't you get us?" He asked, pouting slightly.
"It doesn't matter. Thank you for watching over her, Stumpfoot, Browntail, Tangletooth." Creamfur meowed. "Come on kits, it's time to go back to the nursery now." Outside in the clearing, a warrior slipped into camp. He started purring immediately when he saw Creamfur, Icekit, and Owlkit. "Hello!" He meowed, rubbing up against Creamfur and licking his kits. "Hi Daddy," Icekit squeaked happily. "Hey Barkfur," Owlkit meowed, purrs rumbling like thunder from her throat.
Barkfur stopped purring immediately and looked intently at Creamfur. "You haven't told Icekit and Gingerkit yet?" He asked, seemingly amazed. "I thought he should tell them - after all," Creamfur broke off, looking guilty. "Tell us what?" Icekit asked, nosey as ever. "Nothing," Creamfur meowed, more sharply than she intended. She started trying to purr again, and Barkfur took up the hint. "Owlkit and Icekit, go back to Gingerkit and Dustkit, in the nursery." Barkfur commanded.
Icekit padded resentfully into the nursery. The sleeping Redfoot's tail was becoming prey to Dustkit and Gingerkit, who were bored with no playmates. Gingerkit squealed when she saw Icekit, and bounded up to her affectionately. "Where were you?" She asked. "Just in the elder's den," Icekit explained, looking into her sister's beautiful amber eyes. Dawnkit stirred in her nest, yawning. Her tiny teeth glinted as the sun beamed on them. Her eyes, along with Flamekit's, were shut tight, not having opened yet.
