I fail to understand why people hate her. sure, she went crazy. So would I if I figured out everything I believed in, the very material of my knowledge evaporated from right under me. No, Hollyleaf is not my favorite character, Jay is. But I feel someone should stand up for the poor cat. And whats even more aggravating is that people laugh at her death because of the fact she was obsessed with the code! sure she was over obsessive over the code but without them everyone would suffer, that's why they were created. is that really a good reason for a cat to be laughed at in death? I think it is critically unfair for so many people to ridicule her over something as trivial as that.

I gave it lots of thought and in the end it made sense, the main fact of her madness is terror of being driven out and hatred for her both her "mothers" for making her suffer being a kit born of deciet. And if she really isn't one of the three, then she is simply a normal cat with the simple wish of being a great warrior and she just couldn't take the things that happened to her.
This is an undeveloped idea but I am going to give it a go. Lots of people are annoyed with how obsessed she was with the code, I can understand that. But perhaps there is a reason for it? It just seems that perhaps that may be a punishment for leafpool? not that her daughter tried to kill her, but that she restricted her daughters dreams. From Hollyleaf's very birth she was kept from being something that she wanted to be so badly. This thought as stated before is not complete and I will probably update later if I find something delving deeper into the subject.
Many people don't understand why Hollyleaf did all these things even though she loved the warrior code. This is a topic I am still looking into for an absolute and complete thought, but I am going to put it as well as I can right here. I think Hollyleaf, by the time she killed Ashfur, knew that she has already failed the warrior code, and now without restriction she continued. this is not saying that she felt that she did not have to listen to the warrior code, but she had broken it so deeply that she felt she could never return to an honorable warrior. She knew no matter what she did she would never be the only thing she wanted. To be the best warrior she could. And by this she was broken, but not defeated. She hated her mother for it, for multiple things actually. for making her suffer in lies, deciet, and keeping her from being what she wanted most of all...
I am absolutely not saying that Hollyleaf is not insane. It all depends on the view on insanity, to me... Insanity is a word scarce to my understanding. To most people, in my observation on their view of hollyleaf is the carrying out of actions or other things that prove bizarrely absurd and uncomprehending to others. You can call anyone a lunatic, but they commonly have a reason for what they did. Everything had a reason for why it happened. I did not make this to show not WHY Hollyleaf is not insane, but why she did these things. No, I do not think Hollyleaf is insane. This is because she had a reason for what she did. And as long as there is reason, she is not insane in my eyes...

I completely understand what you mean. No cat deserves that. Also one of the reasons she hung on to the code so tightly was because im sure to her it seemed like the only constant thing in her life.

Also since she clung to the code so tightly I think she thought she was a big mistake and the result of the warrior code being broken.
I think what you wrote is exactly what she had gone through and she felt like she needed to escape but she couldnt.
Swiftstar: exactly, in fact, I think the Erin's actually WANTED us to be upset over her death, Author's rarely discard main characters without attempting to get a rise out of the reader. she is much like me, I have boundaries to my acception, when Sol said that starclan was powerless my head was spinning! I hope, what ever the Erin's do, they give a good reason for making her suffer and die...

I personnally like Hollyleaf. She did what she thought was right. The truth is a powerful thing. * Sigh* She would have killed Leafpool if she didn't go in the tunnles.
if it alredy happened, you cant do anything about it. i mean she cant control the way she was born. she was born into the clan by a thundrclan cat, i mean does it really matter? the other half clan cats are accepted. i mean look at stormfur! he was halfclan already then he joined another clan!the clans didnt get mad at that! everyone should have just accepted hollyleaf into the clan. shes no different from anyone else. she was accepted at first but then *poof* her birth changed how everyone treated her. she shouldnt have died. it was the people that were mean to her that should have died. they are the ones that starclan should be mad at not hollyleaf.
Exactly!! I mean, personally I hate Lionblaze, Jayfeather is cool, but Hollyleaf was always my favorite. I thought I understood her more. I thought Cinderheart didn't understand her when she said, "What have you done?! You ruined the clan!" at the Gathering after the "announcement." I think Hollyleaf is constantly misunderstood.

I quite agree and she is still my fav cat. But she was still a mouse brain when it came to the warrior code. Go Hollyleaf.
I personally think Hollyleaf is a little odd... i mean, she was warrior code this, warrior code that, blah blah blah, and then she went and broke it by murdering a cat from her own clan, and then trying to poison her own mother. and then she went and got herself killed in those tunnels. a bit odd, right??
